As the Communications Coordinator at IICS, being visible and known to the community is always a big advantage (to me and to parents) because it helps me serve the community better. This year to be of more support to the PTA, I am actively developing rapport with IICS parents at quieter, less crowded events. The PTA Tours have been a great opportunity for this.

Since the start of school, I was able to attend two of the PTA Tours– one to Belgrade Forest and the AcroYoga event at Bosphorus University. Both events were fantastic.

The Belgrade Forest Walk  was the kick off of this year’s PTA Tours events and had a huge turnout of 24 ladies and two dogs! Belgrade, which offers a 6km walking track around a lake, is a lovely “nature getaway” just a few kilometers from Istinye. Many parents who have lived here for some time (even YEARS) had only heard about this place through this PTA Tour event, so finding it and experiencing it was a great new find… and a probably a new addition to their weekend routines. Despite being so close to downtown, it was a complete immersion in nature, no traffic noise, just birds singing.

Since many of our parents are interested in and have experience in yoga, an AcroYoga workshop was planned. Even for those who are new to yoga, this was a great class. AcroYoga teachers Musab Kendirici and Acelya Eren gave us a beginning class, and within that short time, look what we were able to do! Everyone had so much fun that they have already asked to schedule another. The PTA will announce the next AcroYoga event soon.

I haven’t been able to attend these next two, but they were very well received, indeed!

The French Bakery Class was extremely popular. Because of the huge demand, IICS parent Sylvie kindly offered to teach two classes privately: Brioche & Baguettes or Tartes. If you want to learn how to bake French classics, you can contact Sylvie for private baking classes.

The PTA had another successful event with the authentic Thai Cooking workshop held at the Hyatt Regency. The Thai Chef amazed our IICS ladies during two sessions with delicious dishes: Beef Salad, Red Duck Curry, Galangal Soup, Pad Thai, and Water Chestnut Dumplings.

Thanks, PTA Tours Coordinator Alexandra Hoffmeyer and the whole PTA team, for continually coming up with fun, new activities to try. If you haven’t tried any of the PTA Tours yet, you should!
