Last year, our dynamic IICS Early Years team established a Facebook group to reach out to fellow professionals in Istanbul as the first steps in setting up a network of expertise, sharing good practice. This modest beginning uncovered a strong interest amongst fellow teachers for strengthening this connection.

In October our team hosted 25 teachers for the first meeting of the Istanbul Early Years Network to share how our Play Based Curriculum enriches our program at IICS. The presentation was very well received and led to a second meeting at Enka School with 40 Early Years professionals attending. Again our teachers were asked to present, this time sharing the progress we have made in documenting student learning, based on evidence gathered of children at play which allows us to build our program around our students ideas, interests, and understandings. In addition, we were very interested to learn from Enka teachers who shared their expertise in running a bilingual curriculum.

This Istanbul Early Years Network has gone from strength to strength and this week we held our third network meeting, hosted by Small Hands, who shared their emphasis on outdoor learning to develop their young learners.

These connections are building a tremendous resource in our community, helping to ensure that we reflect on and develop our program in our efforts to continue to offer an excellent, challenging, and rigorous program for IICS students.
