To our new students and families, I would like to extend a warm and enthusiastic welcome on behalf of the IICS community. To our more familiar faces – I hope the summer was enjoyable, restful, and productive as we look forward to another great year together. I often say that a school in the early days of August is not a school at all, but rather a building filled with equipment with a haunting and abandoned feel to it. However, filled with the energy, purpose, enthusiasm and creativity of students and staff – it is a pleasure to be here now.
Activities and Athletics
Our fall co-curricular activities and athletics season will begin on Monday, September 1. All students (grades 6-12) have been sent an email to sign-up for their co-curricular choice(s). We are pleased to see nearly 80% of our students choosing to get involved in our fall offerings! For questions or details, please contact Mr. Paul Perron, our Athletics and Activities Coordinator, at email@example.com
Save the Dates!
Tuesday, September 9; 8:40-16:20 – Secondary Back to School Day: This day long program will include information sessions on MYP, DP, ManageBac, FAM (our parent database portal), Exploratory; introductory lessons in Theory of Knowledge, Maths, Foreign Language, and other subjects; as well as an opportunity to hear from and ask questions of our Counselors, IB Coordinators, Administrators, and staff. Come see the school in action, have your questions answered, and develop an improved understanding of your child’s IICS experiences.
Wednesday-Friday, September 10-12 – Senior Retreat: Two days at Sheraton Maslak and a third day in an outdoor location (TBD), Seniors will work with Counselors, Advisors, and Teachers to frame their goals for the year, work on IB assessments including Extended Essay, and further prepare college and university application strategies and essays. These days have been very productive in past years as they allow for students to step away from campus and focus solely on the priorities of preparing for the challenges ahead as they enter their final year. The Senior Retreat also provides time for individual mentoring and support as well as grade level team building.
Monday, September 22; 13:00-14:30 – PTA Coffee @ Marmara Campus
Wednesday, September 24; 10:00-12:30 – PTA Coffee @ Location TBD (in town)
Come join the discussion with Secondary Principal, Chris Andre, and fellow parents at one of two sessions. Chris will share his perspective on IICS school culture, the approach behind student expectations and behavior as well as the roles of community mentors and models.
Friday, September 26 – No school for students: Teacher Professional Development Day
Once again, welcome to the 2014-15 School year at IICS. I look forward to working with each and every one of you to help make this year a positive, empowering, and meaningful experience for each and every IICS student. Please let us know what is working and what we can improve upon to reach this goal!
I look forward to ongoing conversations throughout the year and working with you to provide a caring environment, inspiring your sons and daughters to excel, to be inquisitive, creative, compassionate, balanced and internationally-minded – as our mission states.
